Secure server core Powerful threat protection combined to provide multi-layered security over hardware, firmware and operating system.
It uses Trusted Platform Module 2.0 and System Guard to securely boot Windows Server and minimise risks from firmware vulnerabilities.
Secured-core server also includes virtualisation-based security (VBS) features such as Credential Guard and Hypervisor Protected Code Integrity (HVCI).
Guarding credentials Preventive defence for sensitive resources such as credentials and HVCI applies hardware-based security to prevent advanced malware from tampering with the system.
Secure connectivity adds an extra layer of security during transport for advanced protection.
Windows Server 2022 enhances connection security with the faster and more secure encrypted Transport Layer Security (HTTPS) 1.3 protocol and Transport Layer Security (TLS) 1.3 enabled by default.
Customers can also further secure server communications with industry-standard AES-256 encryption, which now supports the Server Message Block (SMB) protocol and improved controls.
Hybrid functionality with Azure We are bringing new capabilities that allow customers to leverage cloud innovation with their on-premise investments.
Azure Arc and the Storage Migration service are two key hybrid capabilities that work best with Windows Server 2022.
Azure Arc allows customers to manage, protect and govern Windows Server on-premises, at the edge or in multi-cloud environments from a single control plane in Azure.
Through Azure Arc, customers can easily utilise Azure management features such as Azure Policies, Azure Monitoring and Azure Defender for these servers.
In addition, with a few simple clicks in Windows Admin Center, connectivity to Azure Arc can be enabled.
In addition, we have enhanced Windows Admin Center v2103 with greatly improved virtual machine management, a simpler event viewer and many other updates.
Windows Admin Center is also available in the Azure portal.
Windows Server 2022 data centre improves seamless connectivity of local file servers to file servers in Azure.
Upgrades to the storage migration service allow customers to migrate file servers from certain network access storage systems (NAS) and Windows file servers to Windows servers on Azure.
Using the storage migration service to migrate data to servers allows customers to maintain low latency while reducing the local storage footprint.
Flexible application platform Customers use Windows Server to run large-scale, distributed applications.
